Various groups in Ecuador decided to unite this Saturday in rejection of the four questions of the popular consultation process that will take place on November 16, after a month of protests led by the indigenous movement.

The president of the National Union of Educators (UNE), Andrés Quishpe, indicated that the alliance will vote No to the consultation because they do not agree with proposals such as the one that suggests that social security stop providing health services, which loses its solidarity character.

Hundreds of people gathered at the headquarters of that union in Quito spoke out against the idea of the Constituent Assembly and also against the questions about the installation of foreign military bases, the reduction of assembly members and the elimination of public financing to the parties.

“None of the questions are to improve security or increase employment,” said Edwin Bedoya, president of the United Workers’ Front (FUT).

Several of the groups that joined the No alliance are formally registered with the National Electoral Council to campaign, for their part, Quishpe said that they will go to the neighborhoods and make door-to-door visits to explain why they reject the proposals of the head of the Executive.

The rejection of the collectives comes after a month of protests led by the indigenous movement, which failed to revoke the measures of the government of Daniel Noboa, such as the elimination of the subsidy on the price of diesel.

The official electoral campaign will run from Saturday, November 1 to Thursday, November 13, and on November 7 they will hold a workshop with peasants in Guayas, and on the 12th of that month a national mobilization with teachers and students is planned to promote the No.

In a recent interview, Noboa expressed confidence that citizens will support his initiatives, noting that he has already thought about possible sites for military bases, including the island of Baltra, in the Galapagos
